"...The Algonquin recognized the Great Beaver, "Quahbeet", as a totem deity, but in their myths, not all beavers were major gods. And in various other myths, beaver characters did not always come out winners, or even survive. In an Algonquin creation myth, for example, when the great flood covered the entire world, Manabusch, the Great Rabbit, attempted to recreate the world but first he needed a single grain of sand to start with. One by one, he sent four animals swimming out to find the sand and bring it back to him. The animals were Otter, Beaver, Mink and Muskrat, but only Muskrat survived and was successful in his quest..."

Mit Indian Algonquin o Stworzeniu Świata;

Indianie Algonquin uważali Bobra Olbrzyma "Quahbeet", za bóstwo, lecz w mitach nie wszystkie bobry były ważnymi bogami. W wielu innych mitach, postać bobra nie zawsze przedstawiana jest jako zwyciezca, lub nawet przetrwaje. Na przykład w micie Algonquin o stworzeniu świata, gdy wielki potop pokrył ziemię, Manabusch, "Wielki Królik", usiłował odtworzyć świat lecz na początek potrzebował pojedyńcze ziarko piasku aby od niego zacząć. Jedno po drugim wysyłał cztery zwierzęta do wody aby znalazły piasek i przyniosły mu. Zwierzęta te to były: wydra, bóbr, norka i piżmak, lecz tylko piżmak przeżył i odniósł sukces w tym poszukiwaniu.
